Asahidake Backcountry Powder Tour

The fully guided Asahidake Backcountry Powder Tour with Journey Into Japan explores some of the best backcountry powder in central Hokkaido. Head to the famed Asahidake with the backcountry touring specialists.

Asahidake offers a combination of lift accessed powder as well as traditional backcountry touring in the nearby mountains where you earn your turns.

The tour dates are designed to align with other tours so you can either take a short tour or go the full powder inhaling buffet!

The Asahidake Backcountry Powder Tour can be combined with the Tokachi Powder Tour to form the Backcountry Powder & Sushi Tour. Or it can be combined with the Tokachi Powder Tour and the Backcountry Delights Tour to form the Ultimate Backcountry Tour. Or it can be combined with Tokachi and the Powder Road Trip to form the Powder Extravaganza Tour.

This tour is ideally suited to advanced skiers & snow boarders with a very good level of fitness as there will be a lot of skinning involved. However it should be pointed out that there is quite a bit of traversing and flat-spots and unless you are an extremely fit and experienced snowboarder; these tours might not be for you.

With regards to gear, you will need climbing skins and climbing style telemark or alpine touring bindings plus avalanche safety gear. If you are a snowboarder you will need either a split-board and skins or snowshoes with risers. If you dont have your own gear you can rent it through the JIJ shop.

Itinerary

This tour starts in either Asahikawa or Furano and ends in either Asahikawa train station or Tokachi.

Day 1
Meet at Furano mid morning or Asahikawa mid afternoon. Transfer to Nutappu Lodge at Asahidake. Experience your first night of amazing Japanese cuisine and squeeze in a relaxing bath in the indoor and/or outdoor hot springs.

Day 2-5
For the next four days you will explore Asahidake (Hokkaido's highest mountain/volcano). Here you will find some of the deepest, driest powder snow on earth! Each night you will stay at a rustic mountain lodge at Asahidake and have the opportunity to have a well-earned outdoor hot spring bath. There are also several other hotels in the area that have public onsens (some of the best in Japan!) as well as public bars; so feel free to share the love around the village.

Day  6
Transfer to Asahikawa train station or Tokachi Mountains if you're continuing onto the next tour.

Journey Into Japan (JIJ) Terms & Conditions

DEPOSIT & FULL PAYMENT

  • Deposit is $AUD250 per person.
  • All deposits are non-refundable.
  • Final balance due: 60 days prior to departure.
  • All payments are in Australian Dollars (AUD)

CANCELLATION BY YOU

  • more than 60 days prior to departure, full deposit forfeited.
  • 60 to 30 days prior to departure, 50% of trip cost is forfeited.
  • Less than 30 days 100% forfeited.
  • JIJ insist you take out travel insurance at time of sending your deposit.

CANCELLATION BY JIJ
JIJ reserve the right to cancel any tour prior to departure. In this case you will receive a full refund. You will not be entitled to make any further claim for compensation, damages, expenses, loss of time or inconvenience.

GROUP SIZE 
Trips costs are based on optimum group sizes. If we don’t get the required number of people (4 for all trips), you will be notified as soon as possible and offered the choice of: 

a) A full refund of the money you have paid.
b) A transfer to another date at no cost to you.
c) Paying a surcharge.

ROUTE & ITINERARY CHANGES 
Due to various factors, such as weather, group ability, gov’t legislation affecting routes and other unforeseen circumstances we reserve the right to alter itineraries if necessary. In most cases itinerary alterations will be advised prior to depature.
