2nd Worst Japanese Hotel We’ve Stayed In

30/06/2018
Part of the reason the bed was so uncomfortable
We’ve experimented with lots of Japanese hotels but the Lady Diana was a complete miss. Lady Diana would be turning in her grave if she knew about this little establishment! The cost was OK particularly if you squash lots of people into a room, and you could stay here readily knowing it wasn’t going to break the bank (but that you could have a bad experience!).

Our minimal interactions with the staff were far from impressive. They were disorganised, not at all friendly and acted as though we were a complete inconvenience. They didn’t speak English and weren’t prepared to communicate via google translate or bother with our minimal Japanese. They had no maps in English or Japanese and no bus timetables, and the staff were very laissez faire if asked for any assistance.

Our room was very compact and the single beds were very very narrow and mighty uncomfortable. One of the mattresses had a spring poking through it, and on showing one of the staff, they didn’t seem to care. The futon area upstairs was accessible via ladder stairs. It wasn’t very quiet in our room and the fake brick walls obviously didn’t help to minimise any noise. It was nice to have an ensuite but it was very small and the fan didn’t work too well so we had to leave the door open to have a shower. On the upside, the heater in our room was very heavy duty.

We peeked into a futon room and it appeared so small that all the futons were right next to each other.

There was a drying room and ski storage area downstairs but it wasn’t set up with racks so it was sort of hard to store any equipment without it all going on the floor. They had a couple of vending machines but there were almost empty.

Breakfast was OK for the standard of the hotel and included an omelette, little sausages, salad, miso soup, sweet cereal and coffee. Breakfast was a little late to get to first lifts and score the highly sought after powder, and there was no way known the staff would let you start breakfast any earlier!

Can’t say we’ll be staying here again!
